Remembering Raymond Coty

Raymond Coty, best known and loved for his energetic and contagious enthusiasm, and his passion for nature's beauty, sadly lost his battle to cancer. Raymond was actively involved in the Los Angeles community, and his creative, hands-on participation, and his upbeat personality will be sorely missed. He was an active member of the Los Angeles Garden Club, and from 2010 - 2012 served as the Club's President. In 2009, Raymond was on the Blue Star Committee and instrumental in securing the location for the LAGC's second Blue Star Memorial, which was installed at the Los Angeles Veterans National Cemetery in Westwood. He and his partner Mark spent countless hours installing and then maintaining two rose gardens at that cemetery. It is also thanks to Raymond that the Los Angeles Garden Club website became a reality for the first time since the Club's founding in 1932. And in 2012, his innovative and creative vision brought us the "Los Feliz Residence Garden Tour & Art Show". Raymond enjoyed participating in flower shows and won several blue ribbons for his floral designs. Eventually, the LAGC nominated him for the Award of Distinction, which was presented to him by the California Garden Club, Inc. Friends of Los Feliz Library was yet another organization Raymond identified with. He was a Board Member, served as Secretary for a number of years, and furthermore was the Editor of the FLFL newsletter. In addition, Raymond was instrumental in working on the planting palette for the Library Garden for which he collaborated with Landscape Designer, Jim Ito. Raymond has left his creative mark throughout this city and we will honor him by trying our best to follow in his footsteps and continue the important work he started. Thank you, Raymond, for your valuable friendship, and for dedicating your precious time to beautifying our environment. We cherish your memory and will keep you in our hearts forever.
